SINGAPORE: Another three items imported from China have been found to contain the chemical melamine.

They are Cadbury Choclairs - Blueberry flavour; Cadbury Choclairs - Chocolate flavour; and Panda Dairy Whole Milk Powder (industrial pack).

The Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) said in a consumer advisory that the milk powder, which is meant for manufcturing use, has not been used in any food production as it has been sealed in the manufacturer's warehouse since September 19.

The AVA has, since September 19, suspended the sale and import of all milk and milk products from China.

It added that the import and sale of all milk and milk products from China will remain suspended until it is very sure that such items are safe for consumption.

The AVA also gave the assurance that the levels of melamine detected in the affected products are low and should not cause any ill-health unless the person has consumed it in large quantaties over a prolonged period of time.

It estimated that even if an adult weighing 60 kilogrammes were to have eaten 108 pieces of Cadbury Choclairs (Chocolate) every day for a good part of his life, the amount of melamine in that person would still be at "tolerable levels".

Singapore has so far found 13 products containing melamine on the local market.

All importers have been told to destroy products that contain the chemical melamine which is not approved in food manufacture.

The AVA said it should be alerted if any of the products are found still on sale. The affected items imported from China and with milk solids as an ingredient are:

Are you doing your bit to boost the local economy, a little? I know I am because almost every Wednesday my family would dine out and do some shopping to boost the economy as it is my mum's only off day in a week. We would usually spent more than $70 a meal including Wendy Mei Mei. No matter how reluctant am I on splurging these money weekly, I am telling myself that we are helping to boost the economy "neng chi shi fu" 能吃是富; and not wait until my mum is old and could not enjoy her favorite hobby (eating).

Anyway, heres the food for 10th Oct 08.

Just did a 30min jog today and was force to retire early due to the old injury acting upon my left knee sigh. Looks like its inevitable that I need to make another visit to the "Tie Da" clinic soon. Hopefully the problem would not surface for this Sunday's match *finger and leg crossed*

Warren Buffett Casts Vote of Confidence In General Electric With $3B Investment

1 comments - Post a comment

Warren Buffett is making a $3 billion investment in General Electric in a vote of confidence designed to ease global market fears about the health of its GE Capital unit. He calls GE the "backbone" of American industry.

Today's Buffett deal is very similar to his backing of Goldman Sachs through a similar $5 billion investment. Like the Goldman investment, he's getting very favorable terms.

In a live telephone interview from his jet, Buffett told our Becky Quick that he's seeing more investment opportunities as prices come down. He also repeated his prediction that Congress will pass legislation to help stabilize the nation's credit markets. If not, he predicts we'll have "terrible, terrible, terrible problems."

One thing we need to know is that with both the Goldman and GE deals, hes getting deals that are far more favorable than any tom and cat would get on the street, wall or main. Hence, it really gives us, the investors, really little confidence as claimed.
