Charity Bidding Starts at $100,000 for Portrait of Warren Buffett Painted In Under Ten Minutes

Online bidding has just gotten underway for a 36-square-foot portrait of Warren Buffett speed-painted at this year's Berkshire Hathaway Shareholders Meeting in Omaha.

The minimum starting bid for the EBay auction: $100,000.

After the first 15 minutes tonight (Monday), there are no offers to buy at that price.

Anyone who does want to place a bid will have to be pre-qualified.

While it took less than 10 minutes for performance artist Michael Israel ("Art In Concert") to create the painting, the auction will run for 10 days, ending at 8p ET on Thursday, November 20.

Proceeds go to Girls Incorporated of Omaha, a group that works to "inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold."

The painting has been signed by both the artist and Buffett.

Will this auction generate anything close to this year's $2,110,100 winning bid for a lunch with Buffett? That seems extremely unlikely, especially in today's increasingly tight financial environment.

Anyone bidding here? :P
