Post-Exams Day 8

No Comment - Post a comment

Are you risk-averse or risk-aggressive?

I met up with my MysteryMSNFriend for our weekly jog cum dinner. Sky was filled with red clouds signifying high probability of raining. We figured we have 2 choices.

A: Jog our usual route; that means running the risk of being shelter-less when downpour begins. (Risk aggressive)
B: Jog around a small little park with shelter being less than 5 meter away. (Risk averse)

We chose to have our hokkien mee and bee hoon immediately.

Just kidding, we still managed to do a respectable 15min jog before our legs started to weigh a tonne.

Post-Exams Day 1

Lets see what did I accomplish today after months of studying.

- Woke up at 10am, attempt to ghost my current windows image. Notebook auto shut down half way through; failed.

- Went for a swim at 11am upon seeing the sun. Reached the pool, swam a few laps with the sun appearing 10% of the time. Got out of pool when I saw droplets from the sky. Went out of the swimming complex only to see the sun back out scorching hot again; as if mocking at me, failed.

- Reach home not long before meeting Patrick for lunch downstairs as he just finished his morning paper.

- Came back home and attempted to ghost again but fail, went on to install win7 direct. After few tries (few tries = few hours), managed to install the x64 version but realised my webcam driver is not working. Installed the x86 version instead and it works. Everything went on smoothly until... I plug in my earphone; only to realise that the youtube video is still playing...with the sound from speaker, failed. Install back winxp after 7 hours of experimenting.

- Went for a jog after like 2 months? Brought along my shuffle too as I was jogging alone (usually I will jog with my MysteryMSNFriend. Just when I was raring to go, I realise the shuffle doesn't power up, failed.

- Thought I could do some 30min jog for a start, only to see myself panting like a dog after 15min. Literally...like a dog...you know.. crawling on four no joke. If you think I am exaggerating......you are probably right.

Merry Christmas 2009

So, how did you spend your Christmas eve? Heres mine.

Woke up at 11am and waited till 4pm literally. Reason? Waiting for the sun to come out so that I can go swimming and sun-tanning. But the stubborn sun was just not intending to appear on a chill Christmas eve.

Bella came over in the evening to "deposit" her bag at my house so that we can go out straight away tomorrow morning. Venue? Kranji Farm Resort! Shall post the photos after the trip. And then off she goes again to meet up with Xiao Wan and Lifang for Christmas buffet dinner at Swiss Hotel. ($98++ per nose)

At around 8.30pm, I went for a 30min jog before meeting my Mystery MSN friend for another 15min jog. We settled our dinner at the nearby zhi char. By the time we finished it was around 10.30pm. We ended our Christmas eve with some snack bought from the Pasar Marlem below my house.

And thats the end of my gay Christmas eve gathering. Stay tuned for our trip to Kranji Farm Resort!

My mystery MSN friend gave me the link to the youtube video below.

Can you imagine the time and effort needed to train over thousands of soldiers to come out with that solid single movement of precise marches? Their movement is so neat, tidy and precise!

Recently, hes been giving me videos showcasing the Military Power of China. Crazy fellow indeed. But we have to agree that the military power of the great China has been increasing exponentially over the last decade. They take great pride in their own army, huge quantity army of soldiers to be precise. Their soldiers are well disciplined and take respect in their uniform. Now, what is your opinion of our NSF walking around in town after booking out?

Registration for the commonly known as Army Half Marathon opened today. The race is on the 24th Aug, flag off time at 6.30am. Interested parties can sign up online from now till 30 Apr 08 to take advantage of the early bird fee at $25 and $20 for the public and Safra member respectively.

In addition, there is another full marathon by Adidas which is the adidas Sundown Marathon. Register anytime from now till 30 Mar 08 during their Special Period for a fee of $65. Yes, there is a meaning for it's Sundown title. Race starts late into the night and runners are expected to complete the race before 11am the next day in order to get the finisher goodie bag. Flag off times for the Ultra Marathon (84km) and Marathon (42km) are 9pm and 11.59pm respectively.

I have already registered for both events and might be going for another one which is the LionCity Marathon this coming June 29. Their registration is still pending. Will see how.

Anyway, I began my first preparation for the coming Sundown Marathon today with a slow and steady 2.4km jog with a timing of 15min 27sec, followed by some chin-ups. Been really a long time since I started a proper jogging. Looking forward to the next one this Wed. Of course, jogging alone is bored, thats why I have my Mystery MSN Friend to accompany me. He is training for his IPPT this coming June.

Lastly, if you have noticed, I have added a little information at the lower right column of my blog. Entitled "Road to Marathon", this little area shall be catered for the amount of distance I clocked before the real show begins.

Just for fun, below is the origin of the name Marathon extracted from Wikipedia.
The name marathon comes from the legend of Pheidippides, a Greek soldier, who was sent from the town of Marathon to Athens to announce that the Persians had been defeated in the Battle of Marathon. It is said that he ran the entire distance without stopping and burst into the Senate, exclaiming "Νενικήκαμεν" (Nenikékamen, 'We have won') before collapsing and dying of heartattack.

ERP

The below information is known to me via my mystery msn friend.

Extracted from Wikipedia.

The system has its share of problems. Road users pointed out that the implementation of an ERP gantry along any road simply moves the traffic somewhere else, potentially causing traffic bottlenecks along smaller roads. For example, the ERP gantry along the Central Expressway (CTE) has been said to have caused traffic to increase substantially in north-south trunk roads, such as along the Thomson Road and Serangoon Road corridors. The rising traffic prompted the LTA to add a gantry along Thomson Road, while Upper Serangoon Road's capacity was increased somewhat with the building of a new viaduct.
Great, "A" has congested traffic. They place gantry at "A". This results in increased traffic at "B". They place gantry at "B". They might as well increase COE by 10 times!

Two SDP leaders arrested, police refuse to give reason

The police have detained Mr John Tan and Ms Chee Siok Chin. The two SDP leaders had gone to Orchard Road to witness a protest that was supposed to be conducted by a group of Burmese nationals at the ASEAN Summit.

But when they arrived at the scene, the two were surrounded by a group of police officers and prevented from walking on.

They were subsequently arrested and led to an unmarked police vehicle by W/Sgt Thean Siew Khin, Sgt Peter Chan, and Cpl Ng Chee Wei and driven away.

When asked the officers refused to say why the two party leaders were being detained.

Initially, the officers would only say that Mr Tan and Ms Chee would be taken to “your headquarters” at Serangoon Road. But halfway to the destination, a radio call came through informing the officers that the destination was incorrect.

Was showed the video by my mystery MSN friend.

Its always interesting to see this kind of real life video. This time round, the casts are even bigger than Zoe Tay or Lee Nan Xing! They are the Singapore Police Force VS the Singapore Democratic Party.

For those who don't know, the lady is Ms Chee Siok Chin and the videoman is Mr John Tan, both are the membes of SDP. Apparently, she just wanted to have a meal with his friend at Shangri-La Hotel where we all know some ASEAN leaders are signing some agreement held there.

Summary of the video.

Again, there are always 2 side of people and opinion (thats why theres SDP!).

On the Police.
  • Thumbs up for their professionalism for not losing their cool on a hard and trouble maker.
  • Thumbs down for being too soft.
  • Thumbs down for not stating the obvious reason thats she prohibited to enter, hence wasting lots of precious time and manpower that was necessary in case of emergency.
We all know Ms Chee from the video that she just wanted some hard facts and rules from the thick law book but the police failed to produce any. That will only strengthen her determination.

On the SDP.

Another shameless and disgraceful act to the SDP and Singapore. Try doing that in other countries! Disclaimer: This post represents a humble opinion from the blogger on this issue. He has nothing against anyone. He loves Singapore and is proud to be her citizen!

Confusion over Money Numbers

No Comment - Post a comment

My mystery MSN friend asked me this question.

一百万 = 1 million
一千万 = 10 million
than 830 million = ?

I decided to post here so that all my readers can refresh their memory or learn from it.

10, 000 = Ten Thousand = 一万
100,000 = One Hundred Thousand = 十万
1,000,000 = One Million = 一百万
10,000,000 = Ten Million = 一千万
100,000,000 = One Hundred Million = 一亿
1,000,000,000 = One Billion = 十亿
