It's suicide

No Comment - Post a comment

Looks like this case is finally closed. Or is it not?

STATE coroner on Wednesday recorded a suicide verdict on the death of Nanyang Techological University (NTU) undergrad David Widjaja, who jumped from a campus block after allegedly stabbing his professor in his office with a kitchen knife..

A bloody Widjaja, 21, an Indonesian, was seen leaving the office of NTU professor Chan Kap Luk. Several witnesses who had testified earlier said they saw the student thrust himself off the bridge on March 2.

The coroner's inquiry into the engineering student's death turned up strong evidence that Mr Widjaja had been planning to kill himself - a possibility his family has repeatedly dismissed.

The inquest was told that months before he fell to his death on campus,Mr Widjaja was searching the Internet for ways to commit suicide and murder.

Text fragments gleaned from the undergraduate's laptop show he used search engine Google to look for 'a good way to commit suicide' and also the 10 most common suicide methods.

He also searched for murder methods and spent some time at a website titled How To Get Away With Murder.

Senior Staff Sergeant Joe Ng Suan Teck, who conducted a forensic examination of Mr Widjaja's black Lenovo laptop's contents, told the court that the text fragments he had extracted included Internet searches and links to websites pertaining to both suicide and murder.

His examination of the laptop also threw up what appears to be a suicide note.

The unsigned document, titled Last Words, was created on Jan 25 and left unamended.

In the note, which begins 'If this e-mail is sent, that means I am no longer in this world', the writer painted a picture of an unhappy family situation, saying he became 'hardened' and stopped crying after he turned 16. 'I just don't have any more tears for me to shed for other people.'

The writer said he 'found life much more difficult and complicated' after entering university.

Youth's last moments captured

No Comment - Post a comment

THE final moments before Nanyang Technological University (NTU) student David Hartanto Widjaja fell to his death were captured on a mobile phone by a fellow faculty mate.

Fourth-year electrical and electronic engineering student Lin Zhenxing was waiting for the lift with a friend, Mr Liu Yan, when they spotted Mr Widjaja - alleged to have stabbed his final-year project supervisor, Associate Professor Chan Kap Luk, during a meeting - sitting on the rooftop of a link bridge three floors below them.

Mr Lin whipped out his mobile phone to record Mr Widjaja through a glass window, for about eight seconds, before he called campus security using the phone.

Meanwhile, Mr Liu, a Chinese national, called the police.

While both men were making calls, Mr Widjaja allegedly pushed himself off the rooftop, falling four storeys to his death.

The phone's memory card, which contained the footage, was handed over to police at the scene.

It was screened in court yesterday at the fourth day of the coroner's inquiry into Mr Widjaja's death on March 2.

A total of 10 witnesses - including NTU staff and students, Mr Widjaja's online 'wife' and a forensic expert - took the stand.

It was also the first time Mr Widjaja's family, who had flown in from Indonesia, viewed the footage.

The footage was grainy and shaky and showed Mr Widjaja sitting by himself on the rooftop of the bridge, first looking down and then to his right - before the clip ended. His legs, shorts and T-shirt were seen to be covered with blood.

Prof recounts knife attack

No Comment - Post a comment

NANYANG Technological University (NTU) student David Hartanto Widjaja turned up unexpectedly at his professor's office on March 2 morning, after avoiding him for a week to discuss his final year project.

He was supposed to see Associate Professor Chan Kap Luk on Feb 26 morning together with several other final year students but he didn't show up. Prof Chan then moved the meeting to the next morning but this had to be rescheduled to 2pm that day as the professor was engaged with two other students that morning. Widjaja did not come in the afternoon.

Three days later, he walked into Prof Chan's office at 10.25am. What followed was an exchange which ended in Prof Chan, 45, being stabbed and the 21-year-old electrical and electronic engineering undergraduate falling four storeys to his death from a bridge.

Prof Chan who was Widjaja's project supervisor, recounted the moments leading to attack on that fateful morning in his conditional statement when he took the stand on Thursday on Day Two of a coroner's inquiry into the Indonesian student's death fall.

He told a packed courtroom that Widjaja came to his office on March 2 morning, saying he wanted to discuss his final year project. Widjaja then produced a thumb drive, claiming his work was stored in it. Prof Chan had problem running the programme on his computer, which showed nothing. To which, Mr Widjaja insisted that he had indeed done the project.

During the exchange, Prof Chan noticed that Widjaja's voice was turning shaky. Moments later, when his back was turned against Widjaja, he felt a blow on his back. He spun around and saw Widjaja wielding an 18-cm knife coming for him. Prof Chan said he tried to block with his arm and fell to the floor.

He said Widjaja attacked him again but he managed to grab the knife, breaking the blade from the handle. A struggle followed, during which Widjaja fell back and hit a metal filing cabinet in the room.

The professor then tried to run out of the office but was blocked by Widjaja. He managed to push Widjaja aside and ran towards the students' graduation office a few metres away. While being tended to by staff, Prof Chan said it was then that he realised that he had been stabbed in the back by Widjaja.

The professor suffered a cut on the tendon of his right index finger and needed five stitches for the wound on his back. He was given 20 days' medical leave.

Prof Chan said that as he was running away from Widjaja, he glanced back briefly and heard the Indonesian student shouting from the door way that he blamed the professor for the whole incident.

He said he did not know what happened to Widjaja as he was rushed to hospital, and only found out he had died from the news.

The inquiry continues.

Last paper yeah!

No Comment - Post a comment

3 papers down, last one to go.
3 papers down, all 3 not able to score.
3 papers down, 2 have difficulty passing.

This is normal............... in B.Eng (Computer Engineering) that is, period.

Productive Day!

No Comment - Post a comment

Quite a productive today. Mugged for 12 hours at the library today for the next paper Logic Design which is on next Monday.

Just for your extra information. Few weeks ago, NTU has made a standardization of some commonly used terminology. From now onwards, the previously used term "Module/Subject" has been changed to "Course". A bit strange because previously when people asked what course are you studying? Common reply would be "Computer Engineering"(for example). Now the term "Course" has been changed to "Subject/Module" instead. And the degree you are studying now has been standardize to "Programme". This sounds more logical.

To add on, I have to endure the 12 hours mugging with the stupid sickening flu. And I tell you, FLU IS THE MOST FREQUENT AND ANNOYING SICKNESS! Brought 1 1/2 pack of tissue but ran out half way. Went down to Canteen to buy 2 packets. Cost of 2 packets of tissue - $0.40. The feeling of wiping your mucus with tissue when its dripping - PRICELESS.

Ok, just some stress releasing. Time to catch some sleep to chiong tomorow. Nightz

Nice Skyline

No Comment - Post a comment

I took a walk across one of the bridge in NTU after my dinner at Canteen A. I chanced upon this sunset. Few minutes later, another guy stopped and took a snapshot of it using his camera phone. Then, a couple noticed it and stopped by to pose for a shot together too. (awww I wish I could took a photo with the blogger of sweetalicious wine lover life too!)

It came to my thoughts that whenever Singaporeans went to overseas and saw some nice skyline, they would envy and admire it and hoped that Singapore would have a similar one. Just take some seconds off the street to take a glance at the sky. Believe me, the actual scene is much more nicer compared to the picture above.

Below are some more photos which I took during Poly days. That was when the digicam camera was in such a crazy and I decided to join in and thankfully learnt a bit about cameras :)

Stupid Logic Design!!!

No Comment - Post a comment

Stupid lab report which requires hand written. Total of 8 pages written. Took me 3-4 hours to finish argh.

The above picture is a circuit that I connected for one of my lab experiment. Its just the 4th lab experiment of this subject and I spent some precious 6 hours to complete a 2 hours experiment. But the feeling of getting it done is great. However, there are more to come. This is only the 1st year, 1st semester, 4th lab experiment. Pray for me.

This is the spot which every morning around 830am will allow the sun to shine through and straight to my face. I finally covered it once and for all. Cheers.

Tip Top Curry Puff

No Comment - Post a comment

Sorry for the poor quality

In today's Digital Life Page 16, my blog was mentioned in the paper on my post on the Tax Evasion by the Famous Tip Top Curry Puff owner. For readers who would like to read the full post, heres the link. Thanks whoever reported it and published it in the paper. It makes my day.

And before I was notified of this by my friend (thanks Gavin Teo), earlier in the morning at 9am sharp when the SGX market open, the first ever IPO that I was allocated, opened at $1.80. Mermaid Maritime's offering price was $1.56, thats a 15% increase! However, I did not sell straight away. Monitor the stock for an hour before letting go at $2.00. A healthy 28% profit. Market sentiments was really bad before the opening as many people were commenting that it was quite a bad IPO at the price of $1.56 with few of their vessels caught on fire this year. Fundamentally, the company is doing just fine but with the high price of $1.56, its riskiness level was high. Hence, I have decided not to keep this stock, selling on profit on the first day. Based on the IPO data from Listedcompany.com, the overall market sentiments for IPO this year is relatively still good especially after the STI broke record new high. So I decided to speculate on this one.

More importantly, my focus is actually on another IPO that will be commencing trading tomorrow. China Oilfield's prospectus looks really good for an IPO with an offering price of $0.60. Their business has high level of entry, management wise, its above average and they have some healthy cashflow operations. Can't wait to check my CDP account tonight for the results.

Just to divert attention back to my personal life, I have a friendly soccer match against Hall 11 later at 6pm. Really hope it will not rain later. Antipating for this match as its our first ever match after 3 training sessions. As a team, I could not see the gel yet but there is still time. We may not have any outstanding players but hey a team with average skills and superb teamwork are stronger as a whole!

Now, will the results of China Oilfield IPO and the outcome of the match made my day? Stay tuned for updates tonight. Cheers :)

Weekend Updates

No Comment - Post a comment

Just some update over the weekend after a busy week as usual.

Selected to join my hall's Dinner & Dance committee as Business Manager. Responsible for finding sponsors and canvassing along with 2 other unknown people which I will know next Wednesday for our first meeting. Apart from that, I am also joining the Inter-Hall competitions for games like Soccer, Volleyball and Snooker.

Decided to stay over at my dear's house on Friday night as we both have commitments on Sat and Sun. After my lesson ends at 5.30pm, I quickly rush straight to AMK for some shopping at AMK Hub. We had our dinner at Stick Rice. Ordered Baby Kailan, Pandan Chicken, Tom Yam soup and LemonGrass Prawn. Sadly, the prawn and chicken cannot make it but we still had our fill anyway. Then we proceeded to shop around for my black soccer shorts for this coming Tuesday's soccer friendly against Hall 11. Bought 1 nike shorts for around $27, kinda ex huh. After that we look around for anklets for Li Ling but couldn't find any nice one. Our last destination was at the basement supermarket (what is it? can't remember). She bought herself a cute little pink slipper to wear at home (can I have the pics pls?), a Silkpro condition and I bought myself a pillow to hug in my hostel! (yeah!!).

It cost $5.90. Much better and also cheaper than the one that I bought at Ikea!

Met up with my sister after that to pass her letters and in returns, received some BBQ chicken wings haha. It was about 11pm before we went back to Wendy's place. After bathing and everything, studied for about an hour plus before we went to sleep in her cosy little room (Sorry no pic!)

We slept for about 11 hours before waking up at 1pm. We both concluded, this is one of our nicest and most comfortable sleep for the past few weeks/months due to her workload and my studies. So satisfying! After washing up, we went for our brunch at Hougang Point's Sakae Sushi. Saw a new set of menu called Teppanyaki and ordered the garlic rice (I love garlic but Ms Sim don't like it).

It cost $3.50. Smell really nice. Recommended for those who love garlic and fried rice.

She straight away ordered the Kikage which I recommended to her the previous time.

After a fulfilling brunch, she recommended the chinese "ButterFly" and "You Tiao". Got picture got talk, see below. Cost me $2.00 for 3 of them. 2 Butterfly and 1 You Tiao. The latter taste nicer though.

We took bus 70 to Paya Lebar before we splitted up. She went to her company's chalet at East Coast while I went back to my hall. Bought a packet of Nasi Lemak for dinner later even though the Canteen is open. The food sux.

$1.20 dinner :)

Amount of letters I received for 2 weeks.

Blackout

No Comment - Post a comment

My Hall experienced an electricity cut on Monday night 9pm. It happened just before I was about to go for a bath luckily. 3 things came to my mind instantaneously.

Firstly, for those who plug out their notebook battery when they are connected to the main, are you in a middle of a project/work? Did you save your work? If not, how much are you gonna re-do the thing again? Morale of story, do a ctrl+s (save) whenever you updated your work so as to play safe. This is a good habit that all should adopt.

Secondly, the network technician must be cursing and swearing too. Because he has to come back to fix the network no matter where he is, what he is doing right at that moment. We all know how precious the Internet is. In terms of money that is. Few minutes of downtime might results in thousands of dollars gone.

Lastly, all of us again realised the importance of electricity and how much Singapore is so much dependent on it. All of us felt so helpless without electricity. We cannot continue our study, we cannot do our work on the notebook. Is it just a matter of time when the natural resources will be depleted? Or will the world begin to use nuclear energy as replacement?

Finally, after a good 10 to 15 minutes of darkness, the light came back on. I went for my bath happily. After I put my shampoo, the lights went off again. So sway meh!! Luckily the water supply is not cut. I hurried to wash away my the shampoo and proceed back to my room.

Electricity flow seems to resume to normal after 15 minutes and there was no more blackout throughout the night. At around 10.30pm, I received a call asking me to go for my Hall's next year Annual & Dance interview. I signed up as a Business Manager when they were going door to door for recruitment. The interview went smoothly, results will be out this Friday, stay tuned.

Then, I received an SMS from my dear saying she got a present for me! Can't wait for it, I quickly dash back to my room and received the present via MSN. To show my appreciation to my loyalty readers, I decided to let you all have a look at the sweet present Wendy made for me.

Isn't the pic in the center cute? Tank cute Li Ling :)

Citibank-The Business Times Financial Challenge 2007

No Comment - Post a comment

Haven't really found the time to blog except to post some videos and jokes to entertain my readers. Hope it does it job well enough to keep my precious readers.

Next week is NTU recess week. Its actually a mid-term break. For the hardworking, its actually revision week, for the rest, its relax and recreation week! So, which group do I belong to? If you know me well, you probably will still guess it wrong! haha cause I belong to the middle. :) If this is Secondary school or Poly's term break, it will definitely be R&R week for me. Here at NTU has 1 good advantage. There is no study week! Because there is only study DAY, everyday is a study day, including weekends which is tutorial day! argh.

Ok, I know those who had already graduated and working outside now must be complaining and telling me in their heart to cherish my school days cause working life is so stressful and boring and tiring. Yes I know all these, I said these to my dear Wendy while she is mugging for exams while I am still in NS, missing my sec and poly sch days. Its just some rants that I need to let it off after a month plus in Uni life. So please forgive me cause I still love all of you here. :D

I went for my Hall soccer training session yesterday. Its been some time since I last wore my soccer boots. We met at the field at 6pm and had a small 7 aside game till 7pm. A good introductory game that each is able to observe the rest in their style of playing. As usual, I played up front with a supporting mid. Managed to score a header before been swapped to the opposite team. The captain has good command control and constantly switching players to see how they adapt in another team. Next Monday will be another training session before a friendly in NTU on Thursday. Looking forward to it.

Just some update over the recess week. Tomorrow, I will be going to NUS for the above mentioned event. Students from NTU and NUS will form a team of 3 to compete in the competition which comprises of 3 rounds. First round is to answer some MCQ questions, second round is some Financial Speed Round questions. And those who got through the first 2 rounds will proceed to the final round which details are unknown. Both of my teammates are from Accountancy, 1 of which is Year 1 and the other is Year 3. We have decided to split the workload prior to the competition. The Year 3 undergraduate who is known as Rainna, will take care of the financial ratios and statement portion as she has more experience and knowledge after going through 3 years of accountancy program. So her speed in deriving final answer is crucial in the 2nd round. The other is a Year 1 undergraduate call Dennis. Like me, Dennis has also invested in some SGX counters and are actively monitoring the market. However, Dennis prefer to adopt a top-down approach in analyzing stock while I'm the opposite (kind of the buffet way). So, Dennis will definitely be a great asset to the team with his additional knowledge on the latest financial news. Wish us luck!

Configuring NTU Mail on MS Outlook

7 comments - Post a comment

This post serves as a guide to all NTU students who want to use their NTU Mail on Microsoft Outlook.

1) Launch MS Outlook

2) Add a new account

3) Select "Microsoft Exchange Server" (Screen 1)

(Screen 1)

4) Enter "MAIL24.student.main.ntu.edu.sg" as the Exchange Server" (Screen 2)

5) ALL NTU Student start with a "#" in front of the name. So if you were to email me, you would like "#YEO GUO LIN COLLIN" without the quotes. So under "User Name", you would like "#" followed by your name and click "Check Name" in order to verify.

(Screen 2)

Thats it. You can use your NTU mail with your MS Outlook.

Additional: To access the Public Folder, click on the Folder Icon at the bottom of the left panel. (Screen 3)

(Screen 3)

Note: Unless you install this VPN program, you would not be able to access the email if you are not connected to the school network, including NTU Wireless Network. Basically, VPN allows you to use the Internet to connect to the school internal network or LAN.

Update on my Crib

2 comments - Post a comment

As promised, here are some updates to my crib with photos and videos.

Before & After.
Yes we bought the same bedsheet and pillow case from Ikea.

Just to show off that I dedicated 1 section just to put the photos of us :)

These 2 pictures were taken while studying at around 1am. Feeling hungry, I decided to try out the 2 food that were given during my time in NS where there was an amazing race and we were given those "rations" during "outfield". It was in left lying around in my house for 3 to 4 months without anyone touching it. I gathered that even if I am hungry at home, I would not eat it as there are many others to place it. So I decided that if I were to get hungry in hostel I would eat it! Yes I did and boy was it delicious!

From left to right, cup noodle, butter cookies, milo, "ba teng", salmon spread, fresh apples! All thanks to my lao dear! She bluff me saying she was going out shopping with her colleague. While studying half way through my lonely Friday night, I heard the closing sound of my door. I turned around and saw someone look so much at my dear. I was left stunned for 0.05s and finally realised it was indeed her! awww... she made all the way from her workplace to Shenton Way to find me and even bought me so much food. So sweet of her. Couldn't help but hug her straight away hehe. btw, she was suppose to teach me one of the maths question but she didn't know how to and fall asleep after that. But seeing her sleeping so soundly, I just feel good.

Latest update. Notice my "guardian of food angel" has changed place? Yeah, I figured out that the food bought by my dear was important, hence I decided to let it guard those cookies and milo. However, I managed to find another "guardian" to replace it. It was given free in a goodies bag when I signed up for NTU Investment Club.

And finally, I was too bored and I decided to take a video.

Final Update of QET Results

No Comment - Post a comment

For the benefits of those who has no idea what is QET, please refer to my entry here.

Yes today is the release of QET results. Wee Hian and me woke up at 7.15am. He set his alarm using the stupid radio cum alarm clock, the alarm rang is damn irritating. We check the online for the results but it was not released yet.

At around noon time, he smsed me asking me for the pin so that he can check for it. At first I confidently said I pass the paper when he asked me to guess. But he said I failed. I was shocked and depressed cause another module gonna eat up my valuable timetable again. Luckily, after another confirmation sms, he said I pass. Heng ah!!! phew!

Its the second week of school. Been quite busy with first few weeks although some of the tutorial and lab lessons are canceled. First few weeks are always hardest to start back the study engine especially after a stagnant 2 years in Army. However, things are so far so good still can manage to catch up with the lecture. Hopefully things will only get better as each day goes by.

Update on my crib

2 comments - Post a comment

Finally, the pictures for my crib is ready. Most of the stuff like bedsheet, pillow, chair etc are from Ikea. Be alarmed, be surprised but don't be happy cause you are not gonna have the chance to lie on my bed!

Hows my new bed? I was conned. Firstly, there are actually 2 pillows stacked together. However, the 2 pillows are known to be "give-a-way" pillows simply because when I lie on it, I can practically feel the bed itself! argh. Secondly, the blanket ain't a blanket at all. Its just a cloth with some opening, guess you need to stuff something inside yourself to make it look at a blanket lol. Anyway, I try not to make my bed too comfortable because you know why :X

My work desk. No, the chair does not come default and it cost me close to a hundred bucks! I don't mind spending a bit more for a better chair because I will be on it most of the time and I need to take good care of my back cum spine. (dear, see I know how to take care of myself!) It really is comfortable. Worth every penny.
Yep, I dedicated 1 section to my food to fulfill my hungry stomach at night while studying. I also dedicated 1 section for photos of me and Wendy :)
So far, nothing much on papers and books yet as I have not really got into the lesson proper. Heavy stuff will comes in from 3rd week onwards.
Ok I need to clarify, the tissue box was brought in by my roomate Willy Kuah, not me!
Missed out something? Yes! If your eyes are sharped enough, you would have notice the small little greeny bird at the top right, behind him are some oreo biscuits and cakes, he is my guardian of food angel!

My wardrobe. Its really a headache to think what clothes to bring for school. Miss the army life where only 1 green no. 4 uniform and some PT and admin kits will do. The basket for bathing was suggested by my dear xie xie :)

I rejected the idea of bringing the TV from our army bunk to here. But he wanted it. So, I told him to off it whenever I'm in the room. And thats the electric kettle at the bottom. The water at NTU taste weird, like tekong water. And boiling the water does not eliminate the funny taste argh.

Exciting Week Ahead

No Comment - Post a comment

Finally after a 2 years break from school for my NS, I am back to studies again. Its 12.35am here at my NTU hostel Hall 5.

I was so low morale at around 9pm at home. The thought of leaving my home and come back only in the weekends, the thought of leaving my dear again, and the thought of starting a course which I have lost so much interest over the 2 years were just too much for me to swallow in minutes or even hours on the train cum bus. So I decided to pamper myself for the first time moving in to my hostel. Hence, I took a cab and I specially choose a Hyundai Sonata cab because I always wanted to sit in one when it was launched in Singapore.

First impression of the Sonata inside was that it is rather cramp compared to other cab especially Toyota Crown haha big difference I know. I rather like the new leather inside. It is on Auto Gearbox Transmission and its engine is rather powerful. The driver is surprisingly young and I almost said "Uncle, NTU xie xie". The satisfactory of siting in the taxi and fast driving just lighten my heavy heart which I brought when leaving home. As he was driving quite fast and it was at night with little traffic, I reached NTU in about 15mins time. 17 bucks.

I have finished unpacking all my stuff and done with my room except I realised the fan really cannot make it. Am considering to get a more powerful fan. Then I also need a 1.5L bottle to put inside my room as the water cooler is rather far away. I went to bathe after that, feeling a bit weird to leave room half naked. But I don't care, its so much easy with a shirt less to go bathing.

Alright, so wheres the excitement that I mentioned?

Firstly, the stocks market is getting more and more interesting with the few recent corrections. Panic market aunties and uncles are selling their stocks to minimize losses, bargain hunters like me are busy researching for strong fundamental stocks to buy in cheap. 2 of my best performing stocks Contel and China Fashion has dropped from a +30-50% to now +10%. Have been queuing to load up more China Fashion for the past few days but could not get it at the price I wanted. I shall continue to monitor its movement for the week, of course not forgetting China HongCheng and ETLD IPO launching.

Secondly, its regarding my beloved Newcastle United. Under the managing of Sam Allardyce, Newcastle has acquired 6 new players. They are Geremi (Chelsea, free), David Rozehnal (Paris St Germain, £3m), Joey Barton (Manchester City, £5.8m), Mark Viduka (Middlesbrough, free), Alan Smith (Manchester United, undisclosed). During this moment of blogging, Sam is still negotiating a few more deals such as Cacapa, Enrique, Drago etc. (I know cause he just updated me last night).

Ok lah lastly its because of my NTU life has just began. Looking forward to study and hostel life after a 2 year gap. Its 12.58am now I am missing my dear who just ended the phone about 30min ago. Finally, those few noisy buggers had already left the Hall in a lorry. Time to sleep. Hopefully I can find time and energy to take some nice pic of my hostel and upload here.

Good night.

RE: QET @ NTU

No Comment - Post a comment

Just an update after taking the QET. What's QET? Refer to my previous previous entry.

I reached the Hall 10mins before time. There are tons of people waiting outside, luckily the route I took lead me to a shoutcut to the queue so I was the first few to go in. While waiting for the rest to come in, I have the opportunity to just scan through all the people to identify familiar faces. To my surprise, quite a number of familiar appeared. They are Alex, Zhenglin and Xian Hui from my Poly DCNT Course (Diploma in Computer & Network Technology). Billy and Willy, the twins whom I knew through Army life. Not to mention Nigel whom I got to know through my SCE/MSE orientation camp. Actually thats about it lol.

So the time began and we were suppose to write a short essay of 250-300 words. 2 topics were given. 1 of them was asking you to describe the qualities of a parent needed to raise a child. The other was a subjective topic asking if you would benefit from a gap of 1 year between studies. I was not too sure what do the 2nd topic means. A 1 year break between Uni studies? Or a 1 year break after Poly/JC? So I chose the 1st topic. After a 5min brainstorm, I pen my thoughts without drafting (as usual).

1st, I mentioned about raising children in Singapore was already hard in the first place due to the long working hours and competitive industry, it adds further burden to parents. 1st quality needed - Good Time Management Skills.

Next, you would want to provide everything for the child. Hence, a good and early financial planning for the child's University education. Of course, parents need to plan for their own retirement before any others financial planning. So parents should start early to have a child's University education planned. This would include the annual expenses needed all the way from Kindergarten till University including the various school fees at different stages. Not forgetting to take into account our dear friend Mr Inflation. A rough gauge of 1-2% will do.

Finally, due to words constraints, I quickly ended my essay by stating raising a child is not just providing care and concern, its also about guiding and teaching them towards the positive and right direction. With proper guidance, the child, hopefully, will grow up to be a righteous and positive man/woman towards things. Last but not least, teach your kids early about financial planning so that they will take control of their own money from young. 1 good way is to give them a book call "Rich Dad Poor Dad" by Robert Kiyosaki as their birthday gift. Of course wait till the kid know how to read English first. =)

There you go. A close to 300 words essay done in 20mins. So the rest of the 70mins, I was just stoning and rocking away because we were not allowed to leave early. (WHY?)

As discussed with Wee Hian, that afternoon we will be heading to Queensway's Ikea for purchases of stuff for our new "bunk". Total damage was about $170. $98 for the chair LOL. We bought bedsheets, pillows, blanket, dustbin, small table for our laser printer etc. Photos will be shot and uploaded next week when I start staying in my new "bunk".

QET @ NTU

No Comment - Post a comment

Will be going for my QET¹ tml morning at NTU. Unfortunately, I got a B4 for my GCE 'O' Level English, hence will need to take the test argh.

After the test, I will be going to Ikea with my roomie Wee Hian aka Willy Kuah for our hostel shopping! Our term are starting on the 6th of Aug so I guess I will be staying in my hostel over the weekdays and return home on weekends. Machiam like Army huh.

Anyway, I will buy getting new bedsheet, pillow, pillow case, blanket as the hostel does not provide them! Might need a table lamp too as the light there ain't sufficient enough.

¹ QET stands for Qualifying English Test. Taken from NTU web site.

Unless granted exemption, students admitted to all undergraduate courses of study in NTU are required to take the Qualifying English Test (QET), which determines whether they take English Proficiency as a subject of study.

(a) Students are exempted from the QET if they present any of the following:
